You enjoy yourself on skis, are confident on red runs, comfortably ski on blacks and you like to ski in the fresh snow between the pistes.
You would like to discover ski touring... new sensations and get away from the lifts and queues.
This two day introduction course is designed to initiate you to ski touring in the best way. Starting with appropriate routes, enabling you to familiarise yourself with the equipment, learn technical tips on the climb and receive advice on your ski technique on the downhill.
To complete your weekend, you will stay in a comfortable hotel with views akin to a wintry Canada, on the edge of Lake Montriond, surrounded by pine forests, cliffs and frozen waterfalls.

The route day to day...

The trip


Elevation: +/-500 - 850m approximately per day.
A good fitness level is required to make the most of this weekend. Ski ability, you must be confident on a red run and have and the basic principles of skiing off-piste.


Number in a group between 3 - 8 people supervised by a qualified professional high mountain guide.


Accommodation in a confortable mountain chalet located in the heart of the Ardoisières Valley, near Avoriaz, in 2 or 3 persons bedroom.


Breakfast and dinner are provided at the chalet.
Picnics are included and are carefully prepared daily by your guide, comprising a variety of local products.

Meeting point Friday at 6:30pm at Hotel les Sapins, Lake Montriond, Morzine.


Inbound: Depart Gare de Lyon (Paris) at 09:11 arrive in Thonon at 13:33.
Night train: Depart Gare de Lyon (Paris) at 23:12 arrive in Cluses at 08:20.

Return: Depart Cluses at 17:22 arrive Gare de Lyon (Paris) at 23:00.

Times given are indicative and should be verified at a train station or at

Inbound: Depart Thonon at 13:40 arrive in Morzine at 14:25.
Depart Cluses at 08:40 arrive in Morzine at 09:30 or depart at 12:40 arrive at 13:30.
Return: Depart Morzine at 16:25 arrive in Cluses at 17:15.  

Take the A40 motorway to Cluses, then direction Morzine/Avoriaz (les Portes du Soleil), follow Taninges, Les Gets to arrive in Morzine.

Equipment & baggage


Avalanche safety equipment including (transceiver, shovel and probe) is provided. However, if you have your own and would like to use them you are free to do so. 


  • Waterproof ski or ski touring trousers
  • Wind stopper or Goretex jacket
  • Breathable or merino wool t-shirts
  • Breathable or merino wool leggings
  • Fleece or jumper
  • Insulating down jacket
  • 2 pairs of ski gloves and a warm hat
  • Walking socks (1 pair per day)

Other Equipment

  • Ski touring boots, touring skis with touring bindings, skins, poles and ski crampons (equipment can be rented in Morzine)
  • Rucksack minimum 35 litre capacity
  • Sunglasses and ski mask
  • Sun cream
  • Water bottle or Camelback (1.5 litre minimum)
  • Knife, fork and spoon
  • Plastic lunch box/plate for your picnic lunches
  • Plastic cup for coffee
  • Small First Aid kit (antihistamine, ibuprofen, Compeed type blister pads...)
  • Survival blanket
  • Identity card or passport 


Bring a comfortable backpack of 35 to 40 litres for your avalanche safety equipment (transceiver, shovel and probe), personal belongings for the day (warm clothes, water, plate and cutlery for your picnic, sunscreen and your identity papers) and please keep a little room to carry a picnic and snacks.
