From Lake Geneva to Maurienne valley

Right through the Alps towards people and mountains... The Grande Traversée des Alpes (GTA) between Lake Geneva and the Mediterranean is a long-distance journey. The opportunity to take a long break and put daily life aside.
This itinerary runs along the Swiss and Italian borders while crossing five departments and some of the most famous ranges of the Alps.

1st section: Chablais, Haut Giffre, Aiguilles Rouges, Mont-Blanc
This first part takes us from the shores of Lake Geneva to Chamonix, the ice capital. We discover the Chablais massif with its characterful limestone relief and the green mountain pastures of Abondance! The wild and preserved Dents Blanches massif opens the doors on the Faucigny region. The land of giant waterfalls, lapies and chasms, but also of heavenly alpine plateaus. A few hours hike later and we are into the Aiguilles Rouges massif from where we finally discover Mont-Blanc mountains, a spectaular display of glaciers and rocks. To be continued…

2nd section: Mont-Blanc, Beaufortain, Vanoise
This section leads us from the giant glaciers of the Mont-Blanc massif to those equally imposing of the "Domes de la Vanoise". On our way, a collection of milk cans reminds us of the authenticity of the pastoral life in the Beaufortain pastures and the creation of the first National Park in France in 1963, land of ibex and marmots.
One of the privileges of being with a guide is the opportunity to discover some beautiful variants and mountain passes stress-free ! The chance to feel alone in the world, in the vast preserved Beaufortain and Vanoise areas.

You will like

  • Traversing mountain ranges, the geology and the varied landscapes
  • Rich ecosystems, abundant wildlife and valleys full of history
  • The beginning of a long-distance alpine trail, which can be continued to Nice in 4 weeks
  • The night cradled by the sound of cow bells in an alpine pasture chalet
  • Baggage transport
  • The night between GTA 1 and GTA 2 is offered
